work2
At some point I had the realization that just like anything else, work is a way to pass the time.
It's a strange way of thinking, but I have begun to see activities as a way of using time. Our main goal in life is actually not to be successful in what we desire but to fill up all our alotted time with something valuable.
You could argue that even if you do nothing you are filling up the time with
something. But are you really? Your time perception changes based on how you
are experiencing reality. So doing nothing seems to disproportionately "use"
less time than doing something, because that action itself is
repetitive.
The fastest way to use up time, at least on the other hand, is do begin a task that occupies the entireity of your mental focus so that you don't even remember the time passing by.
From a longetivity standpoint though, shouldn't we opt just to spend our time in the slowest way possible?
The value of our time is not based in its quantity but its quality. So it is not as valuable to live an additional 10 unfulfilling days than 5 fulfilling ones.
So how should we live then? Fill your time with the most fulfilling activities you can imagine.
